Practise session for Biology students

Consider the 19 enzymes in the direct pathway for the conversion of all carbon atoms in glucose to carbon dioxide. (This pathway includes the glycolytic path to pyruvate, pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, and the entire TCA cycle.) Do not include auxiliary reactions, such as the respiratory chain, oxidative phosphorylation, or the glycerol phosphate shuttle..

Write the complete name for all enzymes in the above pathway that catalyse the following:

1. an oxidation-reduction reaction.

2. the intramolecular migration of a functional group.

3. the removal of water from a single substrate molecule.

4. the addition of water to a single substrate molecule.

5. a reaction in which there are more bonds with high group-transfer potential in the products than in the substrates.

6. a reaction in which there fewer bonds with high group-transfer potential in the products than in the substrates.

7. a reaction in which a saturated C-C bond is oxidized to an unsaturated C=C bond.

8. a reaction in which a vitamin or a derivative of a vitamin is involved as substrate and/or product.
