How Realistic Are Healthy 30 Minute Meals

By Toni Vang

With the busy lives everyone has these days it sounds exciting to be able to quickly prepare a meal for the family. Unfortunately, this is not as realistic as it may sound. Folks cannot just get home from work and throw together healthy 30 minute meals without some preparation ahead of time. This is an awesome concept however real life does not always cooperate.

In order for you to arrive home from work each day and have a meal on the table in thirty minutes you will have to do the prep work ahead of time. This prep can be done on the weekend and everything can be stored in the refrigerator for when the ingredient will be needed. This sounds so simple but in reality it is not always possible if you have a real life.

The reality is, that it might take forty or more minutes to get dinner served. When you have prepared certain dishes several times it is possible to get them done faster. If this does not work, you will need to prepare in advance to get dinner served faster. An alternative is also to select a different recipe that takes less time.

There are some things that folks can do to help them pull a good nutritious dinner together in thirty to forty minutes. There are people who have such a busy schedule that they need to find a way to put dinner on the table in record time every night. There are some tips that can help make life less stressful.

One helpful tip is to use the weekend for blanching, roasting, or chopping vegetables. Also, make the sauces you plan to use during the week ahead of time. Planning meals a week at a time provides you with the list of ingredients you will need. A lot of recipes actually take longer to prepare ingredients than they do to cook the foods.

Also, make sure you plan some meals using leftover. For example, you can use leftovers from Monday to make a dinner for Wednesday. You can either serve the dinner as you did on Monday, or make another meal using the leftovers. If you served chicken and vegetables you can use the leftovers to make a skillet meal. In addition, soups and stews can be made using the remains of a meal.

Pressure cookers and crock pots can help speed things up when putting food on the table. You can prepare freezer bags of slow cooker ingredients and stock them in the freezer. Before leaving for work, just empty a bag into the slow cooker, set the temperature and hours, and dinner will be ready to eat when you get home in the evening. Pressure cookers can prepare meats so quickly that you will be astonished, and wonder how you got along without one.

Remember, it is okay to order takeout food once in a while. Or purchase already prepared dinners at your local grocery store. Give yourself a break and bring home the dinner already cooked and waiting to be eaten. If your budget can handle it, you may even want to eat out every so often.
