Stuart Millheiser: What Is ALS?

By Jason McDonald

ALS is one of those medical conditions which people do not know the extent of. Without question, many people have heard the name, and perhaps have dumped buckets of ice water on their heads in order to raise awareness for it. As far as specific details are concerned, that's where many people may be lost as to what this is all about. For those who are curious to learn more - and it's apparent that many would like to - here are a few crucial details that Stuart Millheiser can tell you all about.

Amyotrophic laterals sclerosis, or ALS, impacts the nerve cells which are normally found in the brain and spinal column. For those who do not know, the muscles we utilize on a daily basis require nourishment to thrive. When this level of nourishment isn't found, it's tough for them to function to the highest of levels. This is the general idea associated with ALS, though it would be a lie to say that this is all that one should know about this particular condition.

Stuart Millheiser, as well as others, can tell you that just about anyone can be at risk of developing ALS. More often than not, this condition is observed in those between the ages of 40 and 70, meaning that the older that someone is, the higher at risk they may be. Of course, there are other factors, though this seems like the one that is touted the most. When it comes to potential cures for ALS, the discussion is made a bit narrower.

When it comes to the cures typically linked to ALS, it's unfortunate that there isn't much to discuss. However, if you're talking about more short-term treatments, perhaps Stu Millheiser, in addition to others, can tell you more. Rilutek has often been regarded as a temporary solution to ALS, since its influence involves the slower breakdown of muscle tissue that's often associated with said condition. This is a piece of knowledge worth noting, not only amongst patients but specialists and intrigued minds alike.

As stated earlier, it isn't like people are unfamiliar with ALS. As a matter of fact, it's easy to make the argument that most people have heard about it; they're just not familiar with some of the more specific details. For this reason, details like the ones previously discussed are helpful, not only for the sake of growth but awareness in general. Once said details are absorbed, it's easy to see that one's level of understanding on the matter will grow.
