How An Aspen Chiropractic Office Is Helping Those With Emotional Stress Avoid Subluxations

By Derick Scartel

The increasingly popular concept of wellness care provided by a chiropractor addresses the healthy spine and nervous system and how to maintain it. A busy adult may have not problems with the back. But, daily emotional stress can cause the muscles to tighten and anxiety set in. When an Aspen CO Wellness Chiropractor sees this condition it can be helped.

The environment around us can cause stress. Worry over job performance and loud traffic can be stressors. Bodily stress has physical sources such as an automobile accident or a disease. Poor eating habits and lack of sufficient sleep are physical sources.

The source that is more difficult to understand is emotional stress. It includes the reactions, such as thoughts and emotional outbursts, people have to outside stressors. The way to deal with this may be hard. Yoga, meditation and breathing exercises may work successfully.

Due to what is called the fight or flight response to stress, hormones secreted by the adrenal glands chemicals can build up in the body. When they build up and there is no outlet for them, it can cause harm. This response is useful during times of danger, but, in our modern society that type of danger is rare. People seldom have to run away from a wild animal that wants to kill them.

One result of chronic stress is tension and contraction of an individuals muscles. This response causes pressure against the vertebrae that make up the spinal column. A subluxation, which is a misalignment of the vertebrae, can lead to pain and additional damage. A chiropractor can provide spinal adjustments to return them to the original position, thus correcting the problem.

This demonstrates the importance of wellness care. When a subluxation is not discovered damage can result. It can cause pressure against a spinal nerve leading to a disc herniation. Routine check-ups by a chiropractor would avoid such a problem from going undetected.

Before a series of spinal adjustments are started, a full evaluation is done. This includes palpation of the spine, range of motion measurements and strength tests. A medical record is kept for future reference. The adjustments are applied over time to realign the spine.
