How Lipo Can Help People Increase Their Self Esteem

By Joshua Thompson

The majority of people continually strive to better their bodies. They diet and they exercise. Most modern people pay attention to their grooming. They want to look good and they want to feel good about how they look. This is one of the reasons why cosmetic surgery has experienced such a massive increase in popularity. In fact, it has become commonplace. Lipo is one of those procedures that are now commonly performed, even in places as remote as Walnut Creek.

Liposuction is not a recent development. This type of procedure was performed as long ago as the early nineteen twenties. It never took of because their were simply too many complications such as gangrene, extreme pain and sometimes even death. In the early nineteen eighties French surgeons introduced new, safer techniques and liposuction very quickly became extremely popular. Today it is viewed as a standard plastic surgery procedure.

Liposuction can remove fat from those areas in the body where it is difficult to achieve results through diet and exercise. The removal of love handles and saddlebags is two of the most popular areas. Removing fat from the chin, the belly, the inner thighs, the cheeks and the breasts are also popular procedures. The majority of male clients wish to remove fat from the breasts and from underneath the chin.

Liposuction will not make cellulite disappear. It is most certainly not a substitute for eating a healthy diet or for a disciplined exercise regime. It is also important to understand that it is impossible to remove all unwanted fat. If too much fat is removed the chances for complications are very high. Older people and people with sun damaged skin may not benefit from this procedure and people younger than eighteen are not eligible for liposuction.

Prospective patients need to conform to certain criteria in order to qualify for liposuction. They need to be fit, have healthy and firm skin with a good tone and they must be non smokers. Obese people and patients suffering from heart disease, asthma, high blood pressure and diabetes do not qualify. The ideal patient will not weigh more than thirty per cent above their ideal weight.

No surgical procedure is without risks and free of side effects. After liposuction, patients can expect swelling, mild pain and some bruising. This will disappear within a few weeks. Scarring can take up to a year to heal and in some cases the scars never go away and require further surgery to correct the problem. In rare cases patients develop infection. It is also possible that the patient end up with unsightly bumpy skin.

When thinking about undergoing liposuction it is important to approach a surgeon that has experience in this specific procedure. It is also vital to make sure that the surgeon is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The surgeon should provide the prospective patient with full information on how the procedure will be performed and also about the side effects that can be expected and the risks that the patient will be running.

Liposuction can do much for the self esteem of those patients that qualify for this procedure. While there are risks, liposuction is deemed to be safe, as long as the procedure is performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon. It is important, however, that patients do not harbour unrealistic expectations.
