Locations For Marijuana Dispensaries In Phoenix

By Stewart Stokes

Marijuana has numerous other names including joint, weed, and cannabis. By definition, it is a preparation of the cannabis plant. It is employed as a psychoactive drug or medicine. The source plant is the cannabis sativa and research indicates that it contains 483 compounds. Out of all the 483 compounds it contains, the main psychoactive part is the tetrahydrocannabinol. The abbreviation TCH is often used to refer to tetrahydrocannabinol. Several marijuana dispensaries in Phoenix offer various patients medical prescriptions for cannabis.

There are over 65 other cannabinoids apart from tetrahydrocannabinol contained in cannabis. People consume the substance in various ways such as eating, smoking, and vaporization. In most cases, people smoke through pipes or hand-rolled cigarettes. Empty cigars can also be filled with the substance and then smoked.

Vaporization is a relatively new method of consuming marijuana, which is meant to avoid inhalation of the smoke. This process involves the use of devices called vaporizers. Vaporizers pull active ingredients including tetrahydrocannabinol from the plant and collect the extracted vapor in a storage unit. One can then inhale the vapor as opposed to the smoke. Cannabis can also be mixed in various foods including tea, candy, cookies, and brownies.

People use cannabis for varied reasons. In most cases, the reasons are recreational or medicinal. However, some people have been known to use it for spiritual or religious purposes. Statistics indicate that on a global scale, between 2.7-4.9 percent of individuals aged between 15-65 used cannabis in 2013. On the other hand, in America alone, 43 percent of the population used the drug in 2015 with the percentage rising to 51 in 2016.

In the US, estimations show that the drug is consumed by a minimum of 1 person out of every 3 people. Both on a global scale and the US, the most commonly consumed illegal substance is cannabis. Its history is a long one dating back to the 3rd millennium. Restrictions have been placed by several countries on its consumption. That makes it illegal for its possession, sale, and use without medical prescription from a qualified medical practitioner.

Medically, the use of cannabis is because of its physical and mental effects, which include heightened mood, general change in perception, and increased appetite. The substance is useful in treating or managing several medical problems. For example, it is used in chemotherapy to reduce nausea and vomiting, improve appetite in people with HIV/AIDS, and for treating chronic pain. It also helps with muscle spasms.

Cannabis produces several short-term effects in people. Some of them include dry mouth, red eyes, paranoia, anxiety, impaired motor skills, and decreased short-term memory. Depending on how the drug was consumed, short term effects take different amounts of time to start showing. Long-term effects include addiction, behavioral problems among children, poor health, and reduced mental ability.

There have been protests against legalization of cannabis in the US. As such, some states have legalized its use for medicinal and recreational purposes alone. One major concern is that major aspects of the drug including production are not regulated.
