Safety Of Natural Alkaline Water

By Christine Edwards

Many claims have been made about alkaline water, particularly about the health benefits it is thought to have. However, some people still fail to know what alkaline water is all about. To start with, the name alkaline in alkaline water is a reference to its pH level on the pH scale. The pH value of natural alkaline water is greater than that of ordinary water.

The high alkalinity of the waters cause some people to claim that they can help to neutralize acidity in the body. Ordinary waters are neutral, meaning that they are not acidic nor is it basic. It has a pH value of 7 on the pH scale. However, these waters have a pH value of between 8 and 9. This makes it very basic.

The substance may occur naturally or may be made artificially. The substance in a natural setting is formed by waters picking up minerals as they pass over different surfaces such as rocks. Artificially, the the substance is made using some devices called ionizers. There are many manufacturers of ionizers who claim that they work by transforming neutral waters into basic ones. The process through which this occurs is called electrolysis. Many researchers have criticized the claims made about ionizers stating that there is no quality evidence to support them.

Groceries, health food stores among other places are where the product can be bought. Ionizers can also be acquired from shopping malls. The internet can also present a wide range of products to choose from and have them delivered to any destination one wants. There are also natural means of making the substance from home. One can simply take a glass of water and add into it a few drops of juice from the lemon fruit. Chemical properties of the water will be changed by chemicals in the fruit.

Another way of making this product at home is by adding a few drops of pH into water. The waters used to make the substance at home should be distilled. It is not advisable to use bottled or tap waters because they may contain certain additives which may react with pH drops or lemon juice. The additives in bottled and tap waters may also cause unknown results. The WHO warns against drinking waters with low-mineral content regularly.

The substance has been claimed to bear several health benefits. It is claimed to be helpful in the regulation of body pH level, slowing of the aging process, and prevention of chronic diseases like cancer from developing. However, according to researchers, most people do well with ordinary waters and the claims are unsupported by science.

Some research studies have published results that indicate that the the substance is beneficial in some ways. A 2012 study reached a conclusion that pepsin in the body can be deactivated by the substance. The conclusion from another study found the substance to be beneficial to people who suffer from diabetes, high cholesterol levels, and high blood pressure.

The water has not been associated with any health problems. It is safe to drink the waters because of the minerals they contain. However, scientists warn the public against believing the health claims made by marketers and manufacturers whose only interest is making money.
