Assisted living is in a way similar to a nursing home care but it serves more to the people who requires assist in their everyday activities for example eating, bathing, dressing up and many more due to a health condition such as loss of memory, Dementia, Alzheimer's along with other health conditions. This can be a type of long term care package that combines support services, health checkup and housing for the senior citizens too. These services are offered at the patient's home, in senior houses, nursing facilities, hospitals or retirement homes.

There are different plans offered under assistant living. You can decide to live a deluxe life of care and assistance in tall skyscrapers, huge mansions and comfortable bungalows or choose simple homes and apartments as your residence, as per your choices and spending budget restrictions. Organizations run sober living communities where each staff member and participant is provided their own residence and possessions. Occupants are provided necessary items for performing everyday activities like eating, dressing, bathing and the laundry plus housekeeping is done by the staff. They are also given help or prompted with their medications and are provided with recreational activities that will engage them physically and mentally for overall health and experience. Security and transportation can also be offered.

What Steps To Take When Looking For A Facility:

- Leaving our loved ones at the mercy of strangers is not an easy decision to take hence, the patient's family members should consider the security steps, comfort zone and health services provided by a center before admitting their loved ones there. Several cases have been described in different parts of country in which senior residents had to suffer from poor treatment, health disorders and abuse, in such houses. Therefore, consider an agency's past working background and reputation before choosing it.

- Start with knowing which assisted living facilities are near your neighborhood. Make a list of them and start searching on the internet. But you cannot depend on information from the internet alone. Talk to the local health departments to check on negligence notices filed against these organizations and their previous working records. Quite often, the ombudsman checks on the conditions of nursing facilities and assisted living facilities. You may also contact your Better Business Bureau and question any complaints that may have been filed against the facility that you pick.

- After you have verified their licensing, professional history and experience, give them a visit. Assess their quality of services, the features provided and the equipments set up in there. How far is the facility out of your home? Is it near establishments, shopping centers along with other businesses? Ensure that the individual feels safe there.

- Take time to observe how the staff interacts with one another. Are they professional? Do they look pleased and helpful? Since you are already in the facility, observe the residents. Are they given freedom to walk around and communicate with each other? In the event that the patients are leading a peaceful, leisurely and comfortable life there, you are able to select the facility for your family member.

Once you confirm these details, talk to the individual, prepare him for living and provide him a personal visit to the facility in order to adjust there.
