Digital Stamps

By Heidi Arrowood

Digital stamps, what are they?

A digital stamp sometimes referred to as digi stamp, is a form of line art that you can download and print from your desktop computer. These stamps can be used in making handmade cards and paper crafts. Digital stamps are saved as jpeg files and can be instantly downloaded. Most digital stamps are very cheap to purchase. Some companies even offer freebies.

Resizing digital stamps.

Digital stamps can be manipulated and resized using programs like Microsoft word and Photoshop. This makes digital stamps very appealing. You may be asking yourself what is the difference between the two types of stamps. When purchasing rubber stamps, you are getting a physical product. You get the stamp with the image embedded in the rubber. With digital stamps, you are not buying a physical product. You are purchasing the image only. Then you can print the image out, or just save it to your computer.

How do you color a digital stamp?

Digital stamps can be colored with any markers that you like to use. Many people use colored pencils, and sometimes even crayons. Make sure to heat set your stamp first. This will prevent ink and markers from smearing together. You can also embellish your designs. This can be done by using such products as glitter pens and stickles. Some people prefer to shade with copic markers, there are classes available to teach you how.

How do you use a digital stamp?

Once your digital stamp is printed out, you can then create cards and paper crafts in two very popular ways. The first method is to color your image first. Then cut around the image trying to leave a thin white border. The second method is to color the image first, then cut the stamp in the shape of a rectangle or circle. This will create a nice frame. After using either method, you can take card stock or patterned paper to stick your digital stamp on. Add a cute sentiment like "happy birthday" and you have a great digi stamp card.
