Desserts Of Official Recognition From The 50 States

By Marquerite Velasquez

Do you know that some states have special official food or dessert, just like how every state can have their official flag, animal and motto? Some of the sweet treats being referred here that are loved by individuals living in some of these states can be uncovered if you read on.

For starters, you should know that Florida has a state pie and that is the Key lime pie. Key limes found throughout the famous Florida Keys are the main ingredient for this tart, meringue-topped dessert. Since the late 1800s this famous pie has been made by Floridians however it was only officially named as the state pie come 2006.

Several other states also have official state pies. Maine's state fruit is the blueberry and the state pie is the blueberry pie. Maine also has an official state treat, which is the Whoopie Pie. The world's largest Whoopie Pie, which weighed more than 1,000 pounds, was creating in Maine. Massachusetts also has a state pie, the Boston cream pie, which is actually a cake comprised of layers of sponge cake separated by vanilla custard and topped with a chocolate glaze. Massachusetts also has a state cookie, the chocolate chip cookie.

Other states enjoy other sweet treats. In Minnesota, the blueberry muffin has been named as the state's official muffin. New Mexico's state cookie is a unique treat called the bizcochito and is flavored with cinnamon and anise. Utah doesn't have an official dessert, but named Jell-O as its state snack food. Missouri's official state dessert is the ice cream cone, which became quite popular after the St. Louis World Fair in 1904.

Maybe California has no official food or dessert but it does not take away the fact that citizens of the Golden State extremely love treats too. Proof is that it is in the area of Los Angles that you can find several ice treats and frosty treats too in its Culver City ice cream shop, YoKuMon. Their offers come in a wide range of ice cream, shakes, sundaes and shave ice but they are also famed for that signature $2 ice cream sandwich that is gourmet.

Don't attempt to look for these ice cream sandwiches in your grocer's freezer because these are way beyond the typical frozen sandwich. What YoKuMon does in order to come up with this treat is to sandwich a huge scoop of ice cream between two cookies which are freshly baked. The staff bakes about eight different varieties of cookies throughout the day so that customers can mix and match cookie and ice cream flavors.
