Unique Dessert Ideas Include Champagne Truffles

By Jaclyn Hurley

Desserts are often seen as an indulgence. Even so, most people have a specific treat conjured up in their mind when they think of special occasions. For example, chocolate cakes with rich frosting are often associated with birthdays. White, fluffy cupcakes are expected at weddings. Valentine's Day is usually associated with a box of fancy chocolates. But sometimes an event needs to be particularly nice, like an anniversary, and that is when champagne truffles should be considered.

Although the name might lead one to believe this decadent dessert is based on a mushroom, don't worry. While there are mushrooms that are similarly named, that is where the resemblance stops. In fact, this confectioner's delight was initially made popular by Teuscher. The signature touch was the addition of a rich, creme Dom Perignon center surrounded by a dark chocolate ganache. It was then rolled in a light coating of confectioner's sugar.

As expected, this high class treat was brought out at only the most important occasions. With its high dollar ingredients, however, many people could not afford to indulge in this confectioner's delight. Instead of sadly walking away from the decadent dessert and going back to the basics, individual's began experimenting with their own recipes. To everyone's delight, there are now many varieties available to make without breaking the bank.

In today's fast paced world, finding a fantastic recipe is only as far away as the closest computer. Search the web by enclosing the search words in quotation marks. This pulls up the most relevant recipes. Once the options are shown, take some time to browse the different versions. It is fairly easy to find something even the most challenged cook can be successful with.

One of the great things about this dessert is the variety that can be added to make it even more special. One unique recipe takes the general chocolate ingredients to another level. After the main confection is completed, the still warm ball is gently wrapped in elegant, edible gold leafing. Because the leafing is extremely thin and delicate, it must be applied with a dry brush. Once dried, placing them in a champagne flute is lovely.

Another tasty option is using a milk chocolate mix instead of dark chocolate. The basic instructions stay the same, however, instead of wrapping the liquored center in a rich, dark ganache it is rolled in liquid milk chocolate. Not only is it a delicate flavor, the color looks like rich caramel. Again, the completed and dried eggs look great in a glass bowl.

Many individual's like the look and taste of pink champagne. Including a twist on the color of the dessert can be captivating and opulent. After the base of the creme is complete, melting white chocolate with a red gelatin provides a dainty pink exterior. If serving this version, placing them inside a champagne flute gives the impression of a tasty glass full of flavor.

When looking for a way to celebrate something special in your life, think outside of the box. Boxed candy holds nothing compared to a handmade dessert. Show that awesome someone just how much you care in a new and inventive manner. It will be an experience they will never forget.
