Garlic Hot Sauce Adds A Kick To Appetizers

By Eric Murphy

One thing that most people hate about dieting is the lack of options when it comes to food that tastes good. Even better, they do not want to spend a small fortune on premium food brands that cost more than dining out at a casual restaurant. In recent, some cooks who have lived the dread of having to count calories or fat content have found ways to add flavor and still be healthy. All this takes is a little creativity and research. For instance, sauces that are made with vinegar are usually low in sodium and calories. Choosing things that are versatile like balsamic vinegar, garlic hot sauce, and salsa that may be used alone or in a number of recipes.

Hearing words like heat, hot, or spice sometimes bring a slight fear to those who envision themselves breathing fire after one bite. In many cases, this is not true. Although there are a few restaurants that require patrons to sign a waiver before eating any food that is considered to be insanely hot to the tongue.

Some unusual ideas include fried spaghetti balls, teriyaki turkey meatballs, and vegetarian mini tacos. A lot of these are easy to make but incorporate different cultures to make something that is unique. Unlike some finger foods of the past, some of these are low in calories but offer a lot more flavor. Sometimes cooks can just make miniature versions of their favorite recipes and it will become a hit with guests.

The best way to gauge how it will be used is to place a drop in a spoon and taste by itself. While faint heat elements may tingle a little, one should be able to taste savory garlic juice throughout. Depending on the strength of the taste, it can be added to salsa, ketchup, or mustard blends made for dipping appetizers or finger foods.

In the past, finger foods were on the bland side and lacked real color. Tuna salad on small croissants, Margherita style flatbread, or the classic staple, watercress on white bread with mayonnaise. These were fairly simple to make but predictable. While some of these traditional standbys seemed light in consistency, they could be laden with calories.

When it comes to cooking entrees, a person does not have to consumer vegetables to lose weight. Many diet plans call for lean meats that have no preservatives. While it helps a great deal to remove the skin from chicken before cooking, using a marinade that has garlic or herbs will add a nice amount of flavor.

Having these sauces around are great for those who are cutting calories or sticking to a bland diet. Many of these are low in sodium and have little sugar but pack a lot of flavors that can be added to grilled vegetables, roasted skinless chicken, and many savory side dishes. It can also be added to Greek yogurt as a dressing for salads and cold pasta dishes. These sauces also make a nice marinade that is not too salty or sweet.

A nice alternative would be to add many sliced fresh vegetables that come in an array of colors. If a person does not care for a vinaigrette dressing, they may want to try plain Greek yogurt. Just stir until smooth and add lemon juice, fresh herbs, garlic, and a touch of honey for a dressing that is easy on the calories and fat.
