Discover The Different Navicular Disease Treatment

By Donna Thomas

The lameness that emanates from the caudal aspect on the horses foot could be caused by different varieties of problems and issues. This bone may even be small but it gives the horses the ability to stand up and support their weight. When this navicular bone is damaged or swelling, it will cause the equine to lie down all the time and does not stand up any longer. Owners must ask assistance from vets to understand better what causes the problems. When it comes to navicular disease treatment, individuals must learn the different aspects when choosing a treatment.

Some farriers and practitioners will apply a small padding that will raise the angles of foot that would decrease the tensions on the tendons and will give comfort to the equines. This may be necessary to make the foot back to normal axis. However, the correct angle will vary from one horse to another and the rise must be gradually done and see which angle works best.

The responses on the horses angle with pads will vary differently when affecting the horses. Never attached an angle that would make it steep for the horses because it will make them lamer. Even though that shoeing is effective, a horse must be treated an isolated case because case differs in pathology.

The primary step is to assess the lameness of hooves and the pain it brings and a careful evaluation about the structure of hoof. The treatment procedure must be based on the location and type of diseases. Shoeing is the first step of all treatments. Surgical and medicinal therapies must only be followed once shoeing is not effective.

A veterinarian should also consider surgical, medicinal therapies and include the intake of anti inflammatory drugs to dilate the vessels into the foot, acupunctures and oral health supplements that is meant for the joints. However, even with all the treatment options, there are still horses that does not improve their chances and still suffer the disease.

When the response of treatment is still insufficient, the reasons of failures is sometimes because of lacking information and data regarding the abnormality that causes the lameness and other specific lesions. Even though that some treatment does not prove to be effective, there are still hope and approaching a science lab could become a good way.

When pressure is being applied right on the heels on the foot, it expands. This compresses the cushion under the soles and pump blood throughout the whole foot. Having a poor foot conformation will also contribute in having a por blood flow.

Get testimonials from other horse lovers and previous clients. They have undergone the whole process in the past and they can share some knowledge about the procedures. They can recommend the same veterinarian who performed the treatment on their horses.

Budgeting is the most important factor. The procedures are very costly and the sessions are not done just by once. The treatment methods will last a long time so it is important to have an estimation from a veterinarian to compare their prices.
