Dermatology just like other fields of study has its various subfields. Some of these are Immunodermatology, cosmetic dermatology, derma pathology, pediatric dermatology and teledermatology. In any of these fields, dermatology specializes in various parts of a human being and various diseases affecting each part.

Dermatologists are leaders in the field of cosmetic dermatology since they train on how to use fillers, Botox and performing of laser surgery. Cosmetic procedures include face-lifts, blepharoplasty and liposuction. Dermatologists only limit their cosmetic expertise practice to specific invasive procedures.

A person studying dermatology can qualify to work in demarpathology since he/she has to first sit for a dermatology exam before proceeding to pathology class.

A dermatologist can also choose to specialize in immunodermatology. In this field, they treat immune-mediated skin diseases such as bullous pemphigoid pemphighus vulgarism and lupus. They are also trained on how to see the effect of UV (Ultra violet) light on the skin.

Mohs surgery is also another field in dermatology that offers highest potential of skin cure, about 100%,even if it has been treated using other methods. The procedure of treating was developed by Dr Frederic E Mohs in the early 1930s, is known as CCPDMA processing, and is only done by qualified physicians in surgery and pathology. It involves excision of skin cancer using a sparing technique that allows 100% of intraoperative assessment of deep tumor and peripheral margins. They receive training on how to use CCPDMA procedure during dermatology residency or they may join American Society of Mohs Surgery or fellowship programs offered by American college of Mohs surgery.

Physicians qualify to be pediatric dermatologists when they complete a dermatology residency and a pediatric residency or complete a post -residency fellowship. A pediatric dermatologist deals with complex disease of the neonates, hereditary disease of the skin or genodermatoses and other skin disorders affecting children. Pediatrics treat young children and newborn infants up to their adolescent years while treating skin infections, which may arise and affect them. It is usually advisable that if you want to pursue pediatric dermatology that you are good with children because you will be interacting with them closely.
