Discover How An Austin Chiropractic Office Helps Alleviate Pain From Whiplash And Auto Injury

By Griselda Zernan Albao

A car crash can cause any number of injuries. It is usually the rear-end collision that causes whiplash to the neck. Even at a low speed it can happen. Many victims in the area have turned to An Austin Chiropractor for care to alleviate the pain caused by an accident resulting in this injury.

When a car is hit from behind, the head is jerked back and then forward very quickly. The abrupt movement may cause a subluxation in one or more of the seven cervical vertebrae located in the neck. These are small bones that comprise the spinal column from the base of the skull to the lower back.

A subluxation occurs when one or more vertebrae are out of place and pressing against the spinal nerves. Chiropractic manual adjustments gently ease these small bones back into correct alignment. This eases the pressure on the nerves, which in turn, eases the pain.

Before the care can begin, a thorough evaluation is made to rule out any injuries other than the whiplash being addressed. The first appointment will be spent asking and answering questions. Non-invasive tests will assess the range of motion the accident victim is capable of.

The care plan a chiropractor creates for each person is unique to that person. Another individual may have the same injuries, but that does not mean care will be the same as yours. General health and age figure in to the equation. The rate of recovery also will vary, taking place slightly faster or slower than that of another person.

You may need to rest for a few days after you have been hurt. But, continued inactivity is not advisable. Your care may include a series of mild exercises to do each day to encourage flexibility. These, along with spinal adjustments and sometimes massage, are the best road to recovery.

A series of office visits will be scheduled for your adjustments. Between appointments the mild exercises will help to keep you as flexible as possible. As time passes, your ability to turn your head from side to side without significant pain, will return.
