How To Choose The Right Hair Clips For Baby Girls

By Lena Stephenson

If you have a new daughter, niece or cousin you may be looking forward to all of the fun clothing and accessories that you can buy. Often times, you will want to use cute accessories to style your new girl's hair and the right accessories can make a difficult task much easier. Here is what you need to know if you are buying hair clips for baby girls.

When it comes to accessories, many options are designed for specific hair types. With adults, hair can be thick, fine, plentiful or sparse. With infants and young girls, individual strands are usually very fine. This can mean that it falls out of different accessories very quickly and easily. Keep this in mind when you are looking at the different clips and options available.

The best clips are ones that are easy to use and can quickly be put into the hair. Most times, you will end up using them one handed as the other hand will be used to keep the hair in place until it is clipped in. If you are handling clips personally rather than shopping online you may want to try to open and close them yourself. That way you can make sure they are easy to use.

You may also want to think about how long the child will be wearing the clip or elastic. Babies will often fall asleep on a frequent basis, especially when they are very young. You may want to make sure that the clip or elastic you are using is soft enough that it will not hurt the baby if she falls asleep with it still in place. The last thing you want to do is to try and remove an accessory from a baby who has fallen asleep.

You may find that a child will be resistant to having anything in their hair. This is more likely if a child has not had their hair handled from a very young age. Being patient and trying a few times with any particular style may mean that you have a more cooperative child to work with. If there is a special event coming up and you want to style your child's locks you might want to consider some practice runs that will let her get a feel for the items you are putting in her hair.

Some babies hate having anyone pull or move their tresses and may kick up a fuss if you try to put in clips or barrettes. They may, however, be willing to accept a headband. By being patient and letting a child get used to having things in their hair, you may find that you have better success later down the road when you may want to try more ambitious hairstyles.

There are many places that you can find options for your little girl. Often, drug and department stores will have a good selection of items. Children's specialty stores will also usually have clips and barrettes that you can choose from.

Then, it is time to try your hand at styling. Start out simple and work from there. If you are patient and work with your child you may be amazed at how neat and tidy you can get her hair to look.
