Examples Of Egg Substitute For Vegans

By Pamela Barnes

A person who delights in taking vegetables only is called a vegetarian. Anything that is related to animal food is not for them either to satisfy their idiosyncrasies or medical advice given by a doctor. Even when others enjoy fish, eggs, meat and others, they find no joy in them but instead prefer to feed on their substitutes. For instance, when baking, egg substitute for vegans is used where eggs should have come in. These substitutes are equally good as they serve the purpose satisfactorily.

One can go with applesauce. Applesauce can be used in baking just the same way eggs are useful in the process. Its fat-free nature makes it suitable for vegetarians who do not want to increase their fat consumption. Applesauce is also known to have low calories so it can prevent overweight issues, which is a characteristic of those who usually dwell on baked foods.

If you think eggs are the best for binding when baking, you are challenged today to try flaxseed. Flaxseed is a good binder and apart from that, its flavor of nuts makes it preferable for whole grain products. You can find them in the market but you have to be careful to avoid the fake ones.

If it is the taste of eggs you want, you should try using the black salt. Just like eggs, black salt has a lot of sulfur in it. Some of the things you can cook with it include quiches, tofu scrambles, vegan egg salads and lots more. Although this product used to be scarce and available only in some special grocery stores, one can now make orders online for it.

You can also replace eggs with ripe bananas. Just a finger of medium-sized banana will do the same as one egg. Since bananas are generally cheaper, you might prefer this option even if you are not a vegetarian. Ripe bananas are most suitable for black bean brownies so you can try some of them to know how yours is going to taste after preparing them.

If you want an effective binding agent apart from eggs, then you should try tapioca starch. Its powerful binding nature makes it suitable for making vegan mayonnaise. It does not even require much since the same quantity an egg can do will be taken care of by one teaspoon of the product mixed with three teaspoons of water.

Baking soda and vinegar mixed together can also do the work of eggs. The mixture can create bubbles making your baked item to swell and have some air without depending on eggs. You can also count on this if you want something that is cheaper since 1 teaspoon of baking soda and thrice the same amount of vinegar can be used as a substitute for a single egg.

These are obviously not the only substitutes for eggs when baking. Generally, anything that can hold the ingredients together (that is improve its structure), make it to rise, and add moisture/richness to the item can be a good substitute. No matter what you go for, endeavor to get it at an affordable price. Many of the substitutes for eggs are even cheaper than using eggs.
