Some Characteristics To Examine When Looking For A Dentist

By Dave Max

Sometimes you don't have a choice in choosing your own dentist. But those are rare emergencies. Follow these ideas to find one that you can depend on when are in need.

Does the dentist allow the patient time to research and different methods of treatment after a diagnosis? Or is the patient rushed from the examining room into the operating room before having the time to process the information. (Unless, of course, it is an emergency situation.)

If the dentist's office is in doubt about whether or not your insurance will cover a specific procedure, ask them to call for preauthorization. Sometimes it is simply a matter of how the procedure is coded. Verify the cosmetic dentist will code the procedure in such a way that it will be covered.

If you need a dentist who accepts Dentistare or Dentistaid, you should find out if he/she accepts it before your office visit. This can help you eliminate from your list the dentists who will not accept it.

There are few things more frustrating than waiting after your appointment time. Find out if a potential dentist is known for being timely with appointments. Dentists should value your time as well as your health and knowing how the office is with appointments can help you plan your day.

Remember that the orders that you receive from a dentist are mandatory. They are not optional. You must follow any instructions given to you by your dentist in order to protect and preserve your health.

Is your dentist passionate about his family? Is his office full of family photos and treasures from his kids? If not, this doesn't mean he's a bad dentist. But if you see these things it indicates he has a good heart. These dentists are known to provide the most attentive care imaginable.

Think about why you are looking for your dentist before beginning the search. Having a great dentist isn't just about finding someone with extensive experience. It's about finding a dentist that provides care in a way that works for you. Before visiting, ask the receptionists about the cosmetic dentist's goals in providing care. If they're in line with what you need, you have a winner.

It's important to keep an eye out for details at a dentist's office. For instance, does the staff seem happy? Does this translate to good patient/staff rapport? If the staff doesn't seem friendly or satisfied, it could indicate underlying problems in the office.
