Feng Shui Numbers

By Raymond Chang

In feng shui, numbers are a topic of much debate. The first example which springs to mind is the number 4, which came to be considered as bad luck by many practitioners.

To ensure your home has the best possible conditions to accumulate positive chi, you need to look at every small detail, including the topic of numbers and the meanings behind them. We must examine two questions:

First, are there really good and bad house numbers? Secondly, what should we be doing with house numbers that bring us bad luck?

As you become more connected with your home and understand it in more depth from a feng shui perspective, you slowly start to understand how the energy of your main entrance empowers the entire home's energy, or how your kitchen can have a positive (or negative) impact on your health.

While understanding the energies of your home, we should also ensure that we are keeping a logical mindset when it comes to dealing with many of the common misunderstandings on the topic of house numbers.

The ancient study of numbers is what we refer to as numerology. By learning more about it we can assess the significance of the numbers associated with our home.

Understanding Feng Shui Numbers

These are the basic meanings behind numbers and their energies.

0 emptiness, potential, nothing

1 A flowing and pure energy, a new start

2 balance, choice, two or more groups cooperating

3 Family, self expression, creativity

4 being stable and secure

5 Change, adventure, adaptability

6 Patience, calm

7 Self reflection, contemplating, being alone

8 Abundance, infinity, success in business matters

9 Accomplishment, the highest number

The energy of numbers is often misinterpreted because the original interpretation of numbers is based on how they sound when spoken in Chinese. The number 4, for example sounds similar to the word for death in Chinese, which is why it is considered to be an unlucky number. But the number 4 in the English language doesn't sound anything like the word for death, does it? So it is not something for you to be worried about.

Feng shui numbers are not simply good or bad - it is not as black and white as that. It is more about the chi (energy). We are all in charge of creating positive energy when we take control of our lives. Your ability to use feng shui is one important step in taking control of your life.
