Finding a Job in the Medical Field

By Franklin Skribbit

If you are interested in working in the medical field, there are a variety of positions that you can start researching. There are some careers within the medical field that are often overlooked, simply because many people do not understand what the position entails.

A nursing salary is often a very competitive salary and can provide you with an adequate ability to support yourself and maintain your lifestyle. To ensure that you are going to get paid well, you should start by understanding what type of education you will need.

Nursing, just like a wide variety of other careers, will reward you for going further in your education. If you have pursued a master's degree or a doctorate degree, you should make sure that your salary reflects this investment.

As a surgical technologist, you will have responsibilities before a surgery, during a surgery and after a surgery has been completed. Basically, you will have responsibilities from the beginning of the surgical process to the end of the surgical process.

After checking the patient's chart, the assistant may also help the nurse place a catheter or an intravenous drip. When the patient is ready to go into surgery, the assistant often collects any personal items that the patient left on his or her body and stores them for the patient.

You want to have a clear understanding of where this degree is going to land you. You may also want to look into specialties to ensure that you fully understand which options you have for your education and how they are going to translate into a pay increase for your career.

Throughout the surgery, the assistant will be required to provide the surgeon, nurse and even anesthesiologist with the tools that are requested. The nurse, doctor and anesthesiologist will also count on the assistant to sterilize the room properly.

Just because you get a higher degree does not mean that you will automatically be rewarded with a higher salary. When you have your degree, you should be sure that you are able to sell yourself to your current employer or to future employers.

Take time to make sure that your resume has been well manicured. You should also practice what you are going to say throughout the interview, so you can be as ready as possible for the interview.

A surgical assistant is able to work with patients and be a part of surgeries without the responsibilities that come with being a surgeon.

Take the time to tweak and change your resume for each position, if it will help. You will also want to make sure that you write a new cover letter for each position that you apply for, to ensure that the cover letter fits each company that you apply with.

If you are considering a career in nursing or if you are looking to further your nursing education, make sure that you do your research. With a little research, you can make sure that your investment is well worth your time.
