Having Recipes For Sale Can Earn A Sizable Income

By Myrtle Cash

For those with a real passion for cooking and baking, creating recipes for sale can be a great way to earn an income from home. While you might start out just looking to earn a little extra cash, you could easily turn this venture into a full time home business. In fact, this can be a very cheap home business to get started.

Selling your recipe creations will only require you to cook if you are in the process of testing a newly developed creation. There is no inventory to track and supply purchases are very limited. In fact, you should only need to buy ingredients for testing and nothing more.

Your recipe creations can be sold one by one or you can use them to create your own cookbooks. Both are a good mean of earning income if you approach it right. Providing your buyers with several different choices of medium can further increase earning potential. You might consider creating a compact disc, hard copies, PDF files and even e-books.

Pricing is also an important element of success. If you price your products too low, customers won't appreciate their value. If you price your products to high, people will for a comparable and cheaper option else where. Finding the right middle ground for price shows the market that your products hold a lot of value, but are still affordable.

Deciding whether or not to grant exclusive rights to your work is also an important factor. Since you are the creator, it is up to you to choose what rights the buyer has. Allowing them to publish your works in other places can mean you can charge a higher price. If you grant exclusive content rights, they will be able to free publish as their own creations. If you grant limited content rights, they would have to credit you as the other if they were to republish elsewhere.

A themed compilation usually sells better than random works thrown together. A collection of cake or cookie recipes, for example, would be more appealing to consumers than a random collection would be. Theme based compilations also sell great. Some ideas for themes include slow cooker, freezer friendly or dietary restriction recipes. Examples of dietary restrictions include gluten free and allergy friendly recipes.

You can choose to offer your recipe collections through various online sites or set up your own website for sales. You could also market on a more local level by setting up at trade shows and festivals. Both are good ways to attract customers, but online selling does require a little more work. If you chose to sell from your own site you are going to have to do your own promoting and marketing to get your name out. If you choose to sell through e-commerce sites you are going to have to market some to draw traffic toward your listings.

Developing recipes for sale is a fun and cheap business start up. All you need is a computer, a knowledge of how to cook and some creativity to market your products. A low cost business start up, such as this, turns profit quickly because there is little overhead.
