Adventure Racing & Why It May Connect To Reality TV

By Robert Sutter

I am somewhat in the general minority when I say that I typically do not care much for reality TV. I understand why there is an audience for it but it is tough for me to sit down through most seasons of such material. However, I do like those shows that have more physical challenges as opposed to individuals talking to one another and oftentimes getting into fights. When it comes to competition in general, adventure racing has my attention locked and it isn't easily released.

Reality TV is not going to be one hundred percent "real," which is something that I have come to terms with. I know that there are producers for these shows and they dictate what happens, for the most part. However, knowing that there are certain men and women behind the curtain of sorts, I am still able to watch through many of these episodes, for the most part. There has to be competition set in place, though, or else my attention won't be kept for long.

Should it be mandatory for these individuals to go about training in this regard? It wouldn't sound like a grave impossibility, especially when you take into account that there are many reality TV show characters that are not exactly the most physically gifting. If they overexert energy, for example, they have no one to blame but themselves. It's important for one to go about pacing in these events in particular, as you will come to figure out, so do not go about them in rash ways.

Should they go about and compete in events along the lines of Spartan Race then? I believe that individuals should be able to train beforehand, especially when it comes to the physicality that reality TV calls for. I do not think that anyone can argue with the benefits that adventure racing can have in the long term. However it is up to you to take that initiative, making sure that your physical condition is at the utmost level that it can be in the long term.

Adventure racing is something that could be of interest to many people for different reasons. This goes for just about anyone, regardless of whether it is actual racing that is the focus or the broad spectrum that is reality TV. Like I mentioned before, I may not be the greatest fan of reality shows but I know that there are those who find some appeal in them. Even I find them to be engaging at times, if not just a little bit of nonsensical for my tastes in the long term.
