Sustainable Growth Comes From The Best Wisconsin Christmas Tree Farms

By Essie Osborn

In the American State of Wisconsin, first ever farm for growing Christmas trees opened. The farm is situated on an area of about 10 acres and before the festive season, you can buy live coniferous trees of any kind and size there. Sales happen only in December, but the work on the planting and cultivation of the plants is done at Wisconsin Christmas tree farms during the other eleven months of the year.

There are two possibilities for choosing a live plant. Each person makes a pick according to their preferences and options, so you can choose one, which after the holiday can be planted in the park or cultivated in a pot on the terrace during the rest of the year. If you do not want to store it throughout the year, you can choose any type of coniferous plant that you like. Buy it a few days before the holiday and after this, plant it in a nearby park or in nature.

Real trees need over seven years of growth, before they can be used. Proponents of faux trees refer to the fact that by reusing theirs year after year, they help save seven to ten live trees during the average life expectancy of their artificial one. Not to even mention the fuels used for transportation of natural trees.

Proponents of natural choices remind you that a large part of these artificial trees are imported from Southeast Asia, expressing concerns over the stringency of the rules for the protection of the environment during their production, and the non-renewable fuels that are required for the arrival of the products to the States. On top of that, most of these trees get made from PVC, the manufacture of which has many known carcinogens. About ten acres of ever- green trees can remove as many as 13,000 pounds of air pollutants annually and produce the oxygen 18 people need daily.

It is important to decide where to plant your trees. At the moment, it will looks tiny and cute, but you should not forget that in time, it could create problems in your garden- overshadow other plants, the lawn and even threaten the foundations of your House. The most commonly used trees are spruces and pines.

It is normal for the plants to drop needles, this is a protective reaction as less leaves evaporate less water/, but just in case, check the soil moisture and reduce the temperature. Another important thing is to turn the lights off for at least a few hours a day, because they emit heat and dry the leaves out. In this respect, do not leave the plants in excessively warm conditions, and when you put it outside, remember that it needs water.

Another problem that you have to solve is the acclimatisation. The removal of the trees from the hot room directly on the cold is quite risky. Well, before you take it out, first leave it in a cool room, don't forget to water it, but if you do not have a suitable place-take it out on the indoor space in the yard on a warmer day or when the snowfall slows.

The next danger from which you have to protect the living tree is freezing the roots- this can be done with the isolation or covering of the pot. Plant it before the start of spring /March, beginning of April/because with later removal of the plant from the pot, even small damage to the roots will reflect on the new-emerging soft twigs. When it comes to the time for planting, be careful not to damage the roots.
