Understanding Water Ionizer Comparison Information Helps Purchasers Make Good Decisions

By Dave Hansen

Without the dynamic interior circulation that slowly builds continents, the Earth today would be a liquid world. Current land masses are dwarfed by the interconnected salty oceans, and fresh supplies comprises only 2% of that total. Most of it must be purified and filtered before drinking to eliminate microorganisms and chemicals. The use of ionized water is a growing trend, and a water ionizer comparison reveals how this substance can benefit users.

Futurists are convinced that coming wars will be fought over rising demand and dwindling supplies. As world climate changes and reserves become depleted, simply having enough for survival is becoming the overriding issue. Considering these unpleasant realities, some wonder why a comparatively small number of people are concerned about using only H2O that has been made alkaline through ionization.

Skeptics point out that this is merely a fad designed to make money by exploiting fear, and on the surface that seems plausible. The devices intended for home use are comparatively costly, often priced between one and six thousand dollars. Because they are meant to change the electrical charge of electrons, and are not designed for use as chemical or biological filtration systems, purifiers are an additional expense.

The process they use is also referred to as electrolysis, employing the same basic principles used in industrial plating. In its unadulterated form, water is made of hydrogen and oxygen atoms arranged in a unique structure. They are not motionless, and there is a constant natural ebb and flow of electrons. In most settings, excess negative or positive charges counterbalance each other naturally.

While most tap product is basically neutral, the reaction taking place during ionization alters the acid and alkaline balance, or pH. When the level is higher than seven, the liquid is said to be alkaline. When lower, it is considered acidic. The differences are quite small on a scientific measurement scale, but advocates claim that these fluctuations can have significant impacts on human health.

Although there are currently no authoritative studies proving those claims, many strongly believe that the extra mineral content common to acidic waters are not just undesirable, but can actually impair digestion and become a barrier to nutrient absorption in the colon. Related molecular changes can also make complete hydration difficult. Beneficial free radicals are also blocked, losing their ability to provide protection against certain illnesses.

Conversely, when alkalinity increases during the ionization process, digestion is improved, and the free radicals made impotent by acid become better able to combat modern afflictions commonly labeled lifestyle diseases, such as diabetes. Alkaline water is though to provide superior hydration, while increasing efficient absorption of magnesium, potassium, sodium and calcium. It even has a more pleasant feel in the mouth.

Advocates claim that for many, the end result of consistently drinking ionized water is detoxification of the body through improved hydration. Some claim that it also helps boost the immune system, helping to fight off the environmental chemical assaults people face daily. The results of natural aging may be diminished by drinking a supply free from toxins, helping to reduce the effects of cell damage.

Devices specifically designed for use in the home are most commonly installed near the kitchen sink connection. Several factors must be considered, including whether a new connection to the main line is necessary, which may require the services of a plumber. There must also be an electrical interface that meets building codes. Do-it-yourself installation is possible, but many people need professional assistance.

Most devices use one of three basic electrolysis plate configurations. Flat, solid plates are the most costly and durable, and resist calcium buildup over the wide surface, which is also easier to clean. Mesh plates use similar principles, but with less surface area, and the mesh openings make calcium deposits more common. Slotted plates combine both mesh and flat designs for economy.

Several brands compete for customers today, and consumers need to educate themselves before making a final selection. Not only is the interior plate construction important, but the availability of replacement parts and specific warranty information should also be a consideration. A reputable ionizer is a significant family investment, but one that should provide superior hydration for many years.
