Guidelines To The Best Special Event Catering Providers

By Jerri Perry

Once you settle on the venue for your upcoming special event, the next major decision should be to choose a caterer. Most venues always have a list of their approved caterers but you can still bring outside caterer at a nominal fee. However, due to lack of homogenous grading scheme for caterers, anybody can start his/her catering company and claim for projects. In order to get top notch special event catering services, you should consider the following factors.

First you need to choose your caterer based on the type of event you are hosting. This is very important because some caterers nowadays specialize in specific events. For instance, you will find vendors who only handle weddings and others who only deal with corporate functions. It is not advisable to hire non specialist for your special event, he/she may lack the required resources to serve your guests.

When preparing for such functions, it is always advisable to have a budget and stick to it. When you start shopping for a caterer, a number of them will try to convince you to increase your budget so that they can give you a memorable function. You need to avoid such providers. Instead, you should look for a company that can comfortably operate within your budget and still give you memorable food.

There are other services that may not be included in the contract but still very important. One of these is the handling of leftovers. Go with a company that will take responsibility of leftovers even if at a small fee. This will really relieve the burden of having to clear the place after the function from your shoulder.

Such service providers like caterers are always required by law to acquire license before they can start their operations. Because of this, ask your potential caterer for his license. In fact, it is not only against the law to hire unlicensed caterer but it is also to the best of your interest. It will be very difficult to trace any caterer without license in case of malpractice.

You should also inquire from your prospective caterer for how long he has been actively involved in this. It is only through experience that a professional can get better. Because of this, you should always aim at companies that have been in this business for not less than five years.

To verify that what your prospective caterer is telling you is true, you should ask him for reference. Remember to ask for his most recent customers who had similar events to yours. Do not just ask reference for the sake of it but you need to contact them to seek their opinions concerning the caterer and whether they would recommend him for similar project.

With the above tips in mind when looking for special event catering providers, you should be able to find the best. Remember that effective communication will also be key exceptional catering required for the function. As such, you should choose a caterer that you can really get along with well.
