Changing Table For Baby

By Darren Hartley

Many parents use a baby changing table well into the second year of the baby. It is not necessary to buy a table designed just for the purpose of changing diapers. A combination dresser and changing table can be used in the baby room for years on end.

A thick changing pad can be an alternative to a baby changing table. The pad is placed on top of a dresser while diapers and wipes are stored in the top drawer of the dresser. This route requires the dresser to be at a comfortable height for the parent.

There are two options available in the selection of a baby changing table. One option is a basic changing table with a shelf or shelves. The other is a combination dresser and changing table. Regardless of either option, the changing table must have a guardrail. The rule of thumb is the higher the protective guardrail around the table, the better.

A baby changing table must have sturdy and stable legs. This is an essential feature to any changing table. It must not feel rickety when it is shaken with both hands. A changing table that provides a handy place for storage should be a preference by a parent in search of the perfect changing table.

Construction is crucial to any baby changing table. A baby changing table made of solid hardwood, with metal supports for added security should be a preference. A table with a weight limit of at least 45 pounds are ideal for parents who expect to use the table for changing and dressing a child through his toddler years.

A baby changing table with sturdy straps for attachments and a guardrail for prevention of the baby rolling off the table, creates a safe environment for the changing and dressing of a baby. A changing table must never have exposed nails or rough edges and must have a non-toxic finish.
