Endotracheal Tube is an urgent method that is usually performed on individuals who cannot breathe or unconscious. This procedure keeps the airways open and prevents possible suffocation. The patient will be given first with an anesthetic. Once done, a plastic and flexible pipe is inserted to your trachea through the nose or mouth to help a patient breathe.

Typically, the trachea is composed of tough cartilage, muscle, and some connective tissues. The primary lining is also composed of a smooth tissue. Therefore, every time you breathe, the windpipes also get longer and wider. Its size will return once you breathe out. Aside from that, you may also experience difficulty breathing when trachea is blocked or damaged. This is the reason why endotracheal tube with subglottic suction is so important.

This kind of procedure can be done for different reasons. It can be utilized to open the airways so you will get enough oxygen to the lungs. When you stopped breathing, you may also need this procedure. People who find it hard to breathe themselves can undergo this procedure. Also, those who meet accidents and suffer from head injury, they may also need this procedure to continue breathing.

EL opens the airway normally. It allows sufficient oxygen to pass through the lungs. But, like other methods, this also comes with serious complications. Before the operation starts, you will be given general anesthesia so you would not feel any pain. Most of the healthy patients do not experience problems, but still at risk for long term effects.

These possibilities may vary depending on your overall well being and the kind of procedure you are undergoing. There are certain things that would increase the possibilities including a history of bad, adverse or reactions to general anesthesia. If you also have problems with your heart, lungs or kidney, then you are at risks of complications. A heavy smoker and alcoholic drinker are also at risk.

There are also some serious risks which may happen among older adults who have medical problems. Though some issues are rarely to happen, they may experience lung infections, stroke, and mental confusions and even death. Typically, some patients are fully aware during the process but do not feel any pain.

Always remember that some intubation risks include collapsed lungs. Your doctor may check you first to prevent any complications. You may also be assessed before and after the process. The method can be done either in the clinic or in hospitals. After the operation, you might also suffer from swallowing problems for a temporary basis.

There is also a big chance that you may experience some complications after this operation. Always make sure to consult your doctor if you experience some symptoms such as swelling, chest pain, and sore throat. These might be indications of further problems that need an immediate treatment.
