How To Find Great Greek Food Fort Lauderdale

By Gregory Wallace

Summer is around the corner and many people will be going to Florida pretty soon. And part from having great parties and such in the Sunshine State, you can have good food as well. If you are wondering how to look for great Greek food Fort Lauderdale establishments, then do read on for some basic criteria that you can use on your own. Using these criteria you can judge for yourself what is good or not.

What will really tip you off on Greek cuisine is the freshness of the ingredients that they use, particularly when it does come to the vegetables and the seafood. Fish will be found mostly in the salads and soups, as well as mixed in with other seafood also. Generally, only meats are grilled in Greek cuisine.

The place to find all of Greek food is called the taverna. The tavern serves all of the Greek specialties which are primarily grilled and roasted meats and such. The mainstay of Greek cuisine is the widely loved souvlaki. This is a skewer of meat and vegetables, usually beef or lamb, that have been seasoned for flavor and grilled. If you think Persian shish kebab, you are almost on the money.

Another popular and well know Mediterranean dish is called the gyro. This basically is unleavened bread, very much akin to the Mexican tortilla that is filled with souvlaki style meat and vegetables sans the skewer. This is then rolled up very much like the Middle Eastern shawarma and served with a host of sauces to choose from.

Another Greek mainstay is the gyro. This is basically the same spit roasted or grilled meat from the souvlaki and serve in unleavened bread, very much like a tortilla. It is rolled up very much like a shawarma and served with a variety of sauces of your choosing.

An authentic Greek place will also have a wide selection of wines to choose from in the bar. These wines of course are to be paired with your meal so that you can get the full taste of the platters given to you. If you are a stranger to wine pairing, you can always ask for assistance and they will be more than happy to help you.

In terms of pricing, this kind of food is decently priced and should be affordable. For a gyro platter the price will be around ten to fifteen dollars on average, while single serve wraps may only cost you about eight dollars or. It goes without saying that prices will go up in tavernas located in swankier hotels and resorts of course.

And of course look at the clientele as a final test of authenticity and gastronomic goodness. If most as you observe are of Mediterranean descent, then you may have hit the jackpot. This is because only true locals and lovers of the food will go to places where the taste is true to home.
