Information About Restylane

By Marten Ranheim

A lot of cosmetic procedures involve the use of dermal fillers currently. In particular, its applications are primarily aimed toward smoothing out wrinkles on the face and reducing fine lines, providing for younger, healthier looking skin. It is also a useful lip filler.

Here, Restylane will be briefly examined.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is the trade name for the dermal filler manufactured by the company Q-Med. Hyaluronic acid is a component that is natural compound in skin, and this is what is in Restylane, which is not derived from animals. Restylane filler was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2003 to be injected into the skin on the face for cosmetic reasons. A fine needle is utilized for the injection of this clear gel.

The natural component hyaluronic acid is in various tissues in the human body. Its structure is so designed that its presence in tissues in fact contributes to its tightness and firmness. It is this property that makes it an excellent dermal filler as it improves the tone of the skin and smoothes out fine lines and wrinkles.

Typical Onset of Action for Restylane

The effects of Restylane injections are often seen immediately, though in most cases it can take a week or so to show any benefits. The skin becomes more full in the lips and face after the hyaluronic acid that is placed under the skin mixes with the water in the tissue.

Duration of Action

A Restylane injection will typically be good for about six months before the effects are mostly dissipated. If patients notice changes back to the previous state, then further injections will be required to maintain the cosmetic appearance previously achieved.

Benefits of Treatment

Restylane has been shown time and again to produce remarkable results when it comes to cosmetic improvement. All these are seen with minimal side effects and downtime.

The Rate of Recovery

The minor side effects which sometimes result from treatments with Restylane are the only issues with recovery. The common side effects include bruising at the site of infection, mild redness and occasionally a bit of bleeding. This is commoner if patients are on blood thinning medication such as Aspirin, and it is recommended that these treatments are stopped prior to the injection being administered. If there is a big social gathering in the near future, it might be wise to wait until after to get the treatment, because at times a few days is needed to recover fully.

Competitors in the Market

There are several manufacturers in the competition against Restylane, these include Juvederm, Belotero, and Perlane treatments. The treatments of choice appear to be Restylane and Perlane. One of the biggest benefits of Restylane treatments is that it stays in the place where it was injected, and doesn't move into surrounding areas. There are also different structures microscopically between these different treatment types.

Depending on where and by who the procedure is carried out, the prices will differ for treatments. For a typical treatment, it can go from about $500, and could even be as high as $700 for injections.

Summary

Today, as far as specialized cosmetic treatments for skin are concerned, Restylane is one of the best products on the market for this purpose. Treatments from this are widely enjoyed by patients who are looking for a safe way to enhance the fullness of their skin.
