Chest Freezer Sale - Tips For Buying A Chest Freezer

By John Brown

Chest freezers are incredibly useful for people who have extra food that needs to be kept frozen. If you are in the market for a chest freezer, the tips here will help you decide on the right chest for you.

Chest vs. Upright

Freezers are made either as an upright or a chest freezer. Here are some advantages and disadvantages of these styles:

Chest Freezer Pros - Energy efficient. - Much more usable space than an upright. - People of all heights can find what they are looking for in any part of the freezer.

Chest Freezer Cons - Things within the freezer can be more easily disorganised than the upright one

Upright Freezer Pros - Easy to find things due to better organisation - Requires less floor space

Upright Freezer Cons - Less energy efficient. - Holds less food than a chest freezer. - Difficult for short people to access all parts of the freezer.

Used vs New

You will also need to choose between a new or a used freezer. Used freezers at a chest freezer sale will tend to be cheaper whilst still working to their original specifications. A new freezer, on the other hand, will tend be more up to date and be more energy efficient. Thus, newer models, whilst more expensive, will save more money in the future than used models.

Manual vs. Auto Defrost

Automatically defrosting a freezer might sound like the better option, however, people still manually defrost their freezers. This is because auto defrosting is less energy efficient as it continuously cycles warm and cold air to prevent ice from building up on the walls. This process may even accelerate food degradation.

At any rate, the manual defrost method is not that difficult. All you need to do is remove everything inside, pull the plug from the drain and wait for the ice to melt. You can use a hair dryer to speed the process up. Afterwards, dry the walls, replug the drain and put everything back to where it came from.

Size

Freezers are available in many sizes. This is the part where you need to determine how much space you need to store your food. For example, if you find that you often buy fresh meat, then a large freezer is more suitable. However, if you most buy from the grocery store, then a more compact freezer will be enough.

In any case, choosing the right freezer is entirely up to you. Whichever one you end up choosing, do not forget to label your food containers to ensure that food is not wasted because it has passed its optimal storage time.
