Learn how Tongue Exercises for Sleep Apnea Work

Do tongue exercises for sleep apnea honestly work? Well to answer that, yes they do when done correctly. The cause of obstructive sleep apnea is the blockage of the airway passage by tissues like the tongue of the mouth.

So what causes obstructive sleep apnea anyway? Sleep apnea is caused by the tongue and tissues of the mouth relax too much and fall to the back of throat which causes the blocking of the airway passage. It is common for the tongue to relax while sleeping, but with sleep apnea cases the tongue relaxes too much.

Tongue exercise for obstructive sleep apnea help strengthen the tongue and keep it from being too relaxed while you sleep. This keeps the tongue from slipping back into the throat and blocking the airway.

It is important that you follow these exercises consistently and correctly to get the full benefit. If they are done correctly, studies have shown for them to work. There are other sleep apnea exercises that are designed by using the throat and jaw that are effective as well.

Here are a few simple tongue exercises for sleep apnea you can practice.

1.) Press a spoon with a tongue against the top of the mouth for an extended period of time until it gets fatigued. Do this twice daily.

2.) Hold spoon against the top of your mouth just behind your top front teeth with your tongue. Keep this position for as long as you can and repeat two times a day.

3.) Gently clinch your tongue between your front teeth. Hold your tongue there and swallow five times. Repeat this exercise three times a day.

4.) Rub the tip of your tongue across the roof of your mouth. Start at your top front teeth and mouth to the back of your mouth. Repeat this sequence for 3 minutes and repeat two times daily.

5.) Simply hold the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth right behind your top front teeth. Hold this exercise for five minutes a day.

Once again, it is very important to practice these tongue exercises for sleep apnea correctly and consistently. Like when exercising to lose weight and get in shape it is important to follow a plan and do it correctly to benefit completely. Practice these tongue exercises for sleep apnea and hopefully they work for you.
