Many Benefits Of Dental Implants

By Tiara Padri

The tooth replacement roots that are placed in the jaw are known as dental implants. Normally the process provide a strong foundation for replacement teeth and are made to suit a patient's original teeth. They are designed in such a way that they fuse with the bone and look like regular teeth.

Dentures should be professionally fitted as a poorly-fitted set will cause difficulty during speech that normally causes slurred words. Proper processes are likely to restore fluent speech, a situation that is hardly possible if patients have removable teeth. Further still, if patients have removable dentures, they are going to encounter difficulties when chewing or eating, but that can be easily rectified by using tooth implants.

The current implant success rate remains at a high of 97%, although this figure varies depending on where the implant is placed. The implant fitting process can be carried out on any person who is healthy or medically fit. Just as in the case with natural teeth, hygiene must be maintained by anyone who has such implants and this may also include visiting a dentist occasionally.

There is a certain group of people - radiotherapy patients, heart disease sufferers or diabetics-who must first seek medical advice before getting an implant. Such a process requires that the patient to have a treatment plan in place that will highlight the best options during the treatment process. Normally this plan is prepared by a professional in oral surgery and dentistry who can identify specific patient needs. With the plan, a team of surgeons will carry out the coordinated treatment depending on the approach to be used for the implant.

A professional dentist or surgeon will work out a plan that is suitable for you. A team of surgeons will carry out the coordinated treatment following the most suitable implant method for the particular case. During the surgery, a titanium-based tooth implant is fixed into the tooth socket of the mission tooth. After surgery, your jaw bone will start growing around the implant, making it secured within the jaw. Generally, this healing process will take from seven to twelve weeks. Once this has been completed, the surgeon then adds a connector post or abutment which serves to strengthen the new teeth.

Afterwards, the doctor creates an impression of the patient's bite and makes a new tooth or teeth, depending on what is needed. This new tooth or crown is then attached to the connector post. Instead of a replacement tooth, some people prefer supportive attachments to the removable denture. The new tooth is created in such a way that its color matches with the original tooth. As soon as the new tooth is implanted safely in the jawbone, it functions and feels like a natural tooth.

There are two main types of the procedure: endosteal and subperiosteal. Endosteal is one of the most common forms, where screws, blades and cylinders are used to insert the replacement tooth. It is used as an alternative for patients who have removable dentures or bridges. In the subperiosteal process, a metal framework post is used for patients who are not able to wear normal dentures and have minimum bone height.

Following successful dental implants, you are advised to observe proper dental hygiene. Flossing and brushing must be carried out regularly. It is also important to visit your dentist on occasion to address other issues like dental implant risks.
