Glioblastoma Tumors: Why They Deserve Attention

By Rob Sutter

There's no question that glioblastoma tumors are some of the most difficult to treat. These types of growths in the brain grow at exponential rates and curing them can be quite troubling. With so many types of tumors and so few forms of reliable treatment, being able to go about this process is one that is quite taxing, both physically and emotionally. However, it's reassuring that there is work being done in order to find further remedies to eradicate this cancerous condition for good.

An article shown on the Science Blog website captured my interest while I was surfing the web in search of glioblastoma information. These tumors are treated - if you don't know - through a standard procedure which includes the removal of as much of the tumor as possible accompanied by radiation in order to finish the job. The issue with glioblastomas is that because of their highly aggressive nature, treatments are resisted to a great extent. Organizations along the lines of V.A.B.C. would want to highlight this pertinent truth.

According to the National Cancer Institute, this variation of tumor is the most prevalent in adults, usually from the mid 40's to early 70's. There are currently no treatments which have been used in the long term but that doesn't mean that work isn't being done. The article said that there have been identifications of targets which are deemed "druggable." These are susceptible to temozolomide, which is responsible for the tumor's resistance against such forms of treatment.

As of now, it seems like clinical trials are being conducted in the name of bypassing this substance referred to as temozolomide. Certain drugs and chemo schedules have been utilized in order to block out the effects of said substance but nothing has come to fruition. This is one of the reasons why organizations such as Voices Against Brain Cancer deserve your attention and help on the matter. You can do your part in order for that ultimate goal to come into fruition.

These organizations have been able to bring people together for multiple events, so who's to say that they wouldn't be able to help in this regard as well? It's no secret that this condition is one of the most troubling in the world, which means that treatments have to be found. Your efforts can help, whether you supply money or your own time in general. Showing your support will be enough to help the movement towards treating glioblastoma tumors soon enough.
